Twenty-two members plus four guests (including sons Craig and Scott) joined Captain Dave Wiggett to celebrate his Captain’s Day at his home course, The Welcombe, Stratford-upon-Avon - a magnificent turnout. We competed for the Captain’s Cup (singles Stableford) and the Earl of Dudley Cup (teams of 3, with the 2 best Stableford scores at each hole counting). 

The course was in great condition and, apart from several blind tee shots, was a pleasure to play. A bonus was the lovely views over the Warwickshire countryside. The weather was warm and sunny, so conditions were perfect for posting a good score. Nevertheless, at the home of the Bard, most of us suffered ‘the slings and arrows of outrageous fortune’, at least that’s our excuse.

There were two clear exceptions: Alex Gretton, who was in sparkling form scoring 39 points to win the Captain’s Cup. And Stewart Hamilton, who was runner-up with a swashbuckling 37 points. Click here for the Captain's Cup scores.

The Earl of Dudley Cup was won by Simon Homans, Andy Burnett and Scott Wiggett with 79 points. Runners-up, on 76 points, were Maron Wyatt, Dave Lamb and John Mayley. Click here for the Earl of Dudley Cup scores.

After an excellent dinner, Dave welcomed everyone to his Captain's Day and announced the results. President Alec Bath rounded off proceedings by thanking Dave for a really enjoyable day.
