Winter Warmer & AGM: John Prowting Cup

Donnington Valley Golf Club, Berkshire - Wednesday 19 April 2023

 Our first event of the year attracted 25 golfers - a magnificent turnout. We were delighted to welcome 4 potential new members, Ashley Baker, Jamie Baker, Josh Lawrence and Tom Taylor and to welcome back Stewart Hamilton and Lee Murphy. 

The course was in good condition and the weather was dry if a little chilly as we played a singles Stableford competition for the John Prowting Cup. Last year, new member Nigel Bailey played some sensational golf to win 6 of the last 7 competitions for which he was eligible. This year, the stranger-than-fiction fairytale continued with the now heavily-handicapped Nigel winning the Cup with an excellent score of 35 points. His great friend, Chris Apsey, also joined the party as runner-up with 33 points, edging out Lee Murphy because of a better back 9. Click here for the scores.

At the AGM Dave Wiggett was elected Captain and John Wyatt was elected Vice Captain. The AGM deferred the proposed trip abroad in 2024; the decision whether or not to have a trip abroad in 2025 will be made at the 2024 AGM. The full minutes can be found within ‘AGM Minutes’ under ‘Our Society’.
