Annual Dinner & Golf              Friday 13 October 2023

The Cotswolds Hotel, Golf & Spa, Chipping Norton

Once again, heavy rain threatened to spoil Friday’s golf. But it couldn’t entirely dampen our spirits as we enjoyed our second consecutive stay at the Cotswolds Hotel. Last year, he was runner-up in both Friday’s and Saturday’s competitions; this year Captain Dave was thwarted again by some inspired golf, first by Tristan Gretton (Friday) and then by John Graham (Saturday). In spite of some hiccups, Friday’s dinner was a success, thanks to our master of ceremonies and main speakers who all sparkled.

President’s Day Report

Badgemore Park Golf Club - Wednesday 13 September, 2023

The 16 players who participated in Alec Bath’s President’s Day included 4 guests - so another disappointing turnout for the last Society Day of the year. Those who did play had a great day, enjoying lovely weather, a good golf course and an excellent dinner. Tim Shaughnessy was in imperious form, winning both the President’s Cup and the Past Captains’ Cup by a wide margin. But his team was pipped for the Autumn Cup by the dream team of Roger Dyer (guest), Phil Spracklen and Giuseppe Lo Bue. Paul O’Neill won the Guest’s Prize.

Great team spirit plus an avalanche of birdies inspired us to win our first inter-regional trophy for 5 years - the Portal Cup, which is the most prestigious of the three inter-regional cups that we contest annually.

Well played, Team!

Summer Break at Forest of Arden - 20-22 August, 2023

Our first visit to the Forest of Arden Country Club was a success. The weather was warm and sunny, both courses were excellent and the food and accommodation were good.  Captain Dave Wiggett welcomed 24 players, a magnificent turnout  - and the four summer break trophies were keenly contested. On Sunday, Chris Apsey finally got his name on a GWR cup, and then did it again on Tuesday (with a little help from Tristan). Well done, Chris!   Click here for the full report and all the scores.
